Harvest Carnival 2010

Harvest Carnival 2010

Posted by Keo on 15 November 2010

On a night normally shadowed by violence and fear, 400 people gathered on the Raymond block for the annual Harvest Carnival. Under bright floodlights, children, dressed as princesses and power rangers, stood in line for carnival games, jumpers, and face painting. Families petted bunnies at the petting zoo. Hungry participants stood in line at the taco truck. Teens chucked baseballs at a target to dunk Elliot, a local youth pastor, and their peers in a pool of water. Neighbors chatted animatedly with one another, as the youth in our youth group showcased their musical talent and provided entertainment for the evening. What a beautiful taste of the kingdom! Jesus is redeeming what's dark and broken and transforming our community with his light!

In the midst of the festivities, people filled out survey cards for a raffle drawing that asked about their interest in knowing God, being part of a Bible Study, and reconnecting with a church. 85 surveys were filled out and 36 expressed interest in joining a Bible Study! Please pray for these coming months as members of a local congregation, Church of the Redeemer, follow-up with neighbors. Pray for perseverance, divine appointments, and Bible studies, where people can know Jesus more personally and experience his love and transforming power through Christian community.
