Redeemer Community Partnership is a nonprofit, Christian community development corporation that builds better neighborhoods in South Los Angeles by creating safe, healthy, opportunity-rich communities where children, youth and their families thrive.
Two weeks ago, we launched our first Parent Education workshop helping parents move their kids from low-performing to high-performing schools. This is an important new piece in our strategy to help children move from cradle to college with a continuum of relationships, discipleship opportunities, and programs. John Hernandez--who grew up in our ministry and returned after college with a heart to help others complete the journey--did a great job facilitating the workshop.

Parents shared enthusiastically, learning from one another, and for some discovering for the first time that they had choices! As the meeting concluded, parents took home a booklet with each local school's performance data along with school applications. After the meeting no applications remained and parents stayed late to continue asking questions. Praise God that we've started off the year with such momentum! Parents are eager to learn more about other school options and educational programs available to them. Praise God that we have parents who care so deeply about the education and success of their children. Please pray that these parents would succeed in getting their children into higher performing schools and that they would become well-equipped advocates for their children's education.
